Janet Susan R. Nepales, GMA News correspondent in Los Angeles, California, won second place in the Los Angeles Press Club's 8th National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards.
Nepales won in the Celebrity News-Print category for her article on "Spotlight on Fil-Am Co-Director of Pixar's 'Inside Out'," published in the Manila Bulletin. The awards ceremony was held at the Biltmore Hotel.
Previously, Nepales had won third prize in the Best Columnist or Critic-International category of the Los Angeles Press Club's Annual Southern California Journalism Awards held early this year for her piece on "Robin Williams: 'Just Dance on My Grave" that came out in her weekly column, "Hollywood Bulletin."
She also won second place in the same category during the 56th year of the annual awards held by the same organization for her column titled "Meryl Streep on Growing Older, Wiser… And Not Scary."
Based in Los Angeles, the University of Santo Tomas Journalism alum has been recognized by the Filipina Women's Network (FWN) as one of the "100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the United States" in 2012 and "100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World" in 2013.
The first and only Filipina member of the 72-year-old prestigious Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) that presents the coveted Golden Globe Awards, Nepales has been actively supporting the group's philanthropic efforts to give funds to charities, foundations, scholarship and international disaster aid relief.
HFPA made a $25,000 donation to UNICEF Philippines in aid of tropical storm Sendong victims in 2011, and again gave $100,000 to the same organization for victims of super typhoon Yolanda in 2013. —KBK, GMA News
