The Asian Americans Advancing Justice, the Filipina Women’s Network and the Japanese American Citizens League have jointly sent an appeal to the Federal Communications Commission who are proposing to cap Universal Service Fund programs, including the federal Lifeline program.

Join FWN in honoring San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee in a petition to name the International Terminal at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) after him. Mayor Lee was a great friend to the Filipina Women's Network. For many years, when we held the Filipina Summit in San Francisco, he welcomed our members and FWN100 awardees with open arms to his beloved City.

FWN stands with The Asian Pacific American Democratic Caucus of Alameda County in denouncing Fox News "The O'Reilly Factor " October 3rd segment as implicitly racist. The segment featured reporter Jesse Watters taking a trip to New York's Chinatown to ask passersby a series of culturally insensitive and ignorant questions while playing stereotypical Asian music and intercutting the story with martial arts movie cuts.  

FWN Members Anny Misa Hefti (Global FWN100™ '15, 16) and Cheryl Sevegan (Global FWN100™ '15) of European Network of Filipinos in Diaspora (ENFiD) converged in Tel Aviv, Israel for a roundtable discussion in line with Peace Table's month of WomanSeriously, a global campaign to influence a shift in policy and practice at the global, regional and national levels away from war and toward a durable and just peace.

Five things you can do to make Filipino Americans visible on election day PLUS the Filipino American Candidates and FWN Members in this election cycle who are making a difference in our communities.

As Filipinos in the United States, we are at a crossroads. The San Francisco Bay Area is home to nearly a quarter of the entire population of Filipino Americans in the United States. Unfortunately, according to FAJ's recent Filipino Electorate Project, it seems that only about 50% of the eligible voting population in the Bay Area's counties are registered to vote. What is interesting, however, is the high percentage of those registered to vote are naturalized citizens. Let's change that.

Tenants Together's new Equal Justice Works Legal Fellow, Evelina Nava will be hitting the ground with a project in San Jose which aims to improve rental housing conditions and combat slum housing. Share your story about your tenancy, your landlord and/or your struggle for tenants' rights. 

Why San Jose? Tenants throughout California fear retaliatory evictions for asserting their rights to safe and healthy housing, but this fear is intensified in San Jose by the current housing crisis and risk of homelessness due to severe unaffordability in the area. Rental prices in San Jose are among the highest in the nation. Recently, apartment rents increased more than in any other U.S. city. Almost 60% of very low-income households pay more than 50% of their income in rent in Santa Clara County. At the same time, there are no “just cause” eviction protections and landlords can impose 8% annual rent increases. Tenants pay too high a price to live in slum conditions.
