50 years ago the historic 1965 Grape Strike was launched in the Delano Filipino Community Hall by the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) led by Larry Itliong & Philip Vera Cruz.
The strike was expanded when the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) led by Chavez & Huerta joined later merging to form the United Farmworkers, AFL-CIO. Yet, the pivotal role that Filipinos played in this historic event was soon overshadowed by the Chavez faction.
