Woo Hoo! Filipina Pioneer: Major Marjorie Mukay, First Filipina Woman Pilot-in-Command of the C-130 in a Transpacific Flight

The newly turned over C-130 cargo plane to the Philippine Air Force was flown to the Philippines from the United States with a female pilot-in-command, Major Marjorie Mukay. California Governor Brown Signs into Law Improved Protections of Immigrants and Domestic Workers

Earlier this month, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 443, The Truth Act and the Domestic Worker's Bill. The TRUTH Act creates increased transparency and due process in the ways that local law enforcement cooperate and function with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Domestic Worker's Bill grants overtime protections to California's privately hired domestic workers and removes the sunset provision and make the law's provisions permanent.

FWN stands with The Asian Pacific American Democratic Caucus of Alameda County in denouncing Fox News "The O'Reilly Factor " October 3rd segment as implicitly racist. The segment featured reporter Jesse Watters taking a trip to New York's Chinatown to ask passersby a series of culturally insensitive and ignorant questions while playing stereotypical Asian music and intercutting the story with martial arts movie cuts.

Vizkidz Publishing LLC is co-founded by Filipina-American Designer Abigail Ricarte and Norwegian-American Data Journalist Liv Buli. Together, the pair has created a series of children’s books that illustrate the basic concepts of data visualization. They recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to crowd-source funding for the initial print, publishing, and distribution of the first book in the series: “Penelope Pie Throws A Pizza Party.”
