AT&T AND WARNERMEDIA ANNOUNCE $7M COMMITMENT TO COMBAT AND CONFRONT ANTI-ASIAN HATE
The fight for social justice continues as hate crimes occur in the Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The increase in reported violence may be attributed to prejudices associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, however these types of racism-fueled attacks and microaggressions are not new to the AAPI community. Together let’s stand…for each other, for our communities, for equality for all.

Foundation for Filipina Women's Network Statement on Atlanta Murder of Asian Women
Message From The CEO
We grieve for the senseless deaths of eight individuals - six Asian women - four of Korean descent, murdered by a white man in a string of Atlanta-area spas.
We are furious that Atlanta authorities quickly determined that it was the murderer's "sexual addiction" and the shootings "do not appear to be" motivated by race. Yet, it appears that this man only frequented Asian spas.
We urge President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to take action now not just a memo. The #StopAAPIHate site has collected over 3,800 reports of anti-Asian hate since March 2020, with "Asian American women reporting hate incidents twice as men." Violence against Asian women has to STOP now.
We call on local and state governments to create infrastructures and resources to educate law enforcement and community leaders on xenophobia and invest in actions to prevent unprovoked anger and protections for Asian Americans.
We invite our allies to stand in solidarity with Foundation for Filipina Women's Network so our voices together can stop anti-Asian racism, end violence against Asian women, and protect women in all walks of life especially those who work in spas, salons, and jobs that require women of color to travel at night and use public transportation.
Follow FFWN on Twitter at @filipinawomen, and tell us how you are helping your Asian sisters.

Rebecca, with over 15 years as an educator and 20 years in architecture, is passionate about systems structures built upon CGC’s five learning principles of self-regulation, common school culture, a shared language, contextual learning, and collaborative spaces. Her research proves that adaptive learning works for all dispositions and various demographics. Currently the STEM Integrator at the United Nations International School where she served as Math Coach, Rebecca has presented Math/STEM workshops internationally in Brazil, USA, Spain, Austria, Denmark, and webinars on Blended Learning Environments using Adaptive Technology.
The CGC was born at the International School of Brussels. There, with the full support of a far-sighted Board, Kevin Bartlett, then the ISB Director, and Gordon Eldridge, still the Director of Curriculum, collaborated with other teachers and leaders to create a systemic approach to all aspects of learning, teaching, assessing, leading and community building. With the departure of Kevin from his role at ISB, the Board signed the intellectual property for the CGC over to its founders who registered the Collaborative in Brussels as a non-profit company.
The Common Ground Collaborative (CGC) is a non-profit, global community of sense-makers, innovators, educators and partners who share a common goal. We’ve had it with decades of disconnected curriculum, disconnected schools and disconnected conversations, so we are co-creating smart, systemic, sustainable solutions.
Cynthia Barker, first Filipina woman elected mayor in England, Global FWN100™ 2017 Awardee, dies after serious illness.
Sad news.
Cynthia Barker, first Filipina woman elected mayor in England, Most Influential Filipina Woman in the World, 2018, dies after serious illness. Rest in Heaven, Cynthia. You did well in this world. Your public service to the community will always be remembered and you will always be loved @HertsmereMayor
Tributes following the death of the Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Cynthia Barker
Our elected members and staff are deeply saddened by the death of the serving Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Cynthia Barker, following a period of illness.
Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this extremely sad and difficult time, and we send them our sincerest condolences.
The council’s flag flies at half-mast outside civic offices as a mark of respect.
Cynthia was appointed to the highly prestigious role in June this year, having served as Deputy Mayor last year, and had been a borough councillor for Borehamwood’s Kenilworth ward since 2015.
She was the first Philippines-born elected representative in the borough, extremely proud of her heritage and committed to doing her utmost to champion equality and diversity for all our communities in Hertsmere. She was also chosen as one of the 100 most influential Filipinas by the Filipina Women’s Network.
Responding to the very sad news, Leader of the Council, Cllr Morris Bright MBE, said: “I knew Cynthia as both a colleague and friend. Nothing was ever too much for her. She thrived at being a local councillor, always wanting to help residents with their issues. She left a lasting impression on the council and Borehamwood.
“We are all struggling to take in the sad news at the moment but I am sure we will all remember Cynthia as a kind, wonderful person who was a hard working community representative. My thoughts and prayers go out to Cynthia’s family and friends.”
Managing Director, Sajida Bijle, added: “My sincere condolences, on behalf of all the staff at Hertsmere Borough Council, are extended to Cynthia’s family and friends. I know how honoured she was to be appointed to Deputy Mayor last year and then as Mayor, and how much she enjoyed undertaking a whole host of duties across our communities. She will be greatly missed by us all.”
Cllr Jeremy Newmark, Leader of the Labour group, added: ““It was a privilege to have known and worked with Cynthia. She was a trailblazer and role model for women and minorities in local government. Cynthia was kind and supportive to me personally when I was first elected as a councillor, despite being on opposite sides of the political divide.
“She brought grace and dignity to the office of Mayor but was always approachable and down to earth, particularly when engaging with children and young people. Her commitment to charitable causes, notably the NSPCC and the Rotary Club, was relentless. May her memory continue to inspire us all.”
Cllr Andrew Melville, Leader of the Liberal Democrats group, concluded: “The news is very sad about our dear friend Cynthia. I would just like to say how kind and friendly she was. She will be remembered for her warm heart and kindness towards her fellow councillors. I wish to pass on my deepest condolences to her family and friends at this extremely difficult time. May she rest in peace.”
