Carmina Montesa Aldana, Global FWN100™ 2019, shares her group’s work advancing neurosurgical care and treatment:
The Neurosurgery Outreach Foundation (NOF) advances neurosurgical care and treatment in underserved communities worldwide and has as one of its outreach programs what we call an Educational Surgical Mission. ESMs are more sustainable, education-based, and community-focused, working closely to build capacity.
Our focus is the Philippines, but NOF is in 15 countries now. Below is the documentary ‘Healing Minds,’ about our work in the Philippines, featuring ESM in 2022. It was aired on local TV in Florida last year and was nominated for an Emmy!
Dr Patricia Clerkin, the first Filipina pediatric neurosurgeon in the US, earned her Global FWN100™ 2023 from her involvement in this service trip. Happy viewing! I salute all of you with big hearts wanting to help our kababayans.
