More Filipina Chefs Reach Global Success
Cris Comerford (Global FWN100™ '13) broke the glass ceiling for women chefs when she became the first woman and first Filipino to hold the coveted title of executive chef of the White House. With increased opportunities abroad and the culinary school boom (led by prestigious French cooking institution Le Cordon Bleu) in the Philippines, it's likely that we'll see more rockstar Filipina chefs like Cris heading kitchens and satisfying palettes across the world.

Filipina comfort women have been demanding recognition and justice from the Japanese government for the sexual exploitation and violence they suffered at the hands of Japanese soliders during WWII. There are about 70 Filipina comfort women still living, many of whom are over 80 years old. Their resolve and fight for justice remains unwavering after 60 years of struggle. The Philippines Soars, Ranks 7th in Global Gender Equality Index
A statistic we can be proud of. The Philippines climbed to 7th in Gender Equality Index - the highest in all of Asia last year! How? The Philippines recorded more female legislators, senior officials, managers, political ministers, and professional and technical workers which means MORE political empowerment, economic participation and opportunities for Filipina women in the Philippines. Since 2006, the Philippines has been in the Top 10 ranking. But there's still room for improvement in the educational attainment gender gap which has increased slightly. News story from PhilStar.com.
