V-Day FWN 2016: Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues Goes Out with a Bang!
On May 13th, V-Day FWN and the Women of Color United Against Violence cast stood up to raise awareness about violence against women at San Francisco's historical Herbst Theatre to an audience of over 500 people. The production of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues raised funds for FWN's Anti-Violence Against Women Campaign and the Comfort Women Justice Coalition, a human rights organization building a Comfort Women Memorial in San Francisco as a place for healing and remembrance.
A special Comfort Women Extro was presented by Fiona Ma, Chairwoman of the California State Board of Equalization calling for Japan's full responsibility for the largest volume of sex trafficking in modern history.

Al Perez (FWN100 Keeper of the Flame) and Ruth Asmundson (Global FWN100™ '14) Joins Delegation in Fight to Include Contributions of Filipinos in WWII into California Education Curriculum
The 17-person delegation that trooped to Sacramento recently to press for the inclusion of the role of Filipino soldiers in World War II in California’s school curriculum hoped to get good news. They were somewhat disappointed. The delegation led by the Bataan Legacy Historical Society (BLHS) included Filipino American Arts Exposition President and FWN100 Keeper of the Flame Al Perez; Ruth Asmundson (Global FWN100 '14); BLHS board members Major (Retired) Rick Villarina (Air Force) and Robert Hansen; former Lowell High School Dean Ray Cordoba; retired Judge Betty Bucat and Consul Reginald Bernabe, among others.
First Transgender Politician Elected to the Philippine House of Representatives
Voters have made history in the Philippines, electing their first ever transgender politician, Geraldine Roman, to the House of Representatives. Roman is a Liberal Party candidate in the congressional district of Bataan. News story from CNN.com.
