FWN Women Take Action on International Women's Day at Manila Peninsula, March 8th

FWN members convened at the Ramon Magsaysay Room at the Manila Peninsula Hotel on March 8th to #TakeAction in celebration of International Women's Day. The celebration brought together over a dozen FWN members and awardees for an afternoon of great food, networking and inspiring conversations to kick off the 13th Filipina Leadership Global Summit in the Philippines this September. The discussion focused on gender parity and a thoughtful discussion of how we can mobilize Filipina women to lead on parity issues as a FWN strategy initiative.

Tenants Together Combats Slumlords and Slum Housing

Tenants Together's new Equal Justice Works Legal Fellow, Evelina Nava will be hitting the ground with a project in San Jose which aims to improve rental housing conditions and combat slum housing. Share your story about your tenancy, your landlord and/or your struggle for tenants' rights. 

Why San Jose? Tenants throughout California fear retaliatory evictions for asserting their rights to safe and healthy housing, but this fear is intensified in San Jose by the current housing crisis and risk of homelessness due to severe unaffordability in the area. Rental prices in San Jose are among the highest in the nation. Recently, apartment rents increased more than in any other U.S. city. Almost 60% of very low-income households pay more than 50% of their income in rent in Santa Clara County. At the same time, there are no “just cause” eviction protections and landlords can impose 8% annual rent increases. Tenants pay too high a price to live in slum conditions.

Nominate an influential Filipina for the Most Influential Filipina Women in the World Awards (Global FWN100™), a working award for outstanding women of Philippine ancestry who are asked to FEMtor a young Filipina woman to help develop next generation leaders. 

The Global FWN100™ awards gather Filipina women who have risen to the most influential and/or highest positions in the public and private sectors so together with FWN build the Filipina community's pipeline of talented Filipina women with the hope that some will rise to the president position in all sectors of the economy.

We need your help! REUNITE domestic violence survivor Nan-Hui Jo with her daughter before they are permanently separated!

Nan-Hui Jo has been criminalized because she is an immigrant, a survivor of domestic violence and a fierce protector of her daughter. And despite the failure of the jurors to declare her guilty in her first trial, the Yolo County DA has aggressively pursued a re-trial, saying that the case is purely about child abduction and not domestic violence.
