Inspiring the Filipina Summit is the “FWN GivesBack”—our way of giving back to the host country of the summit. This program is integral to FWN’s FemtorMatch™, our campaign to increase FWN’s talent pipeline and the active development of next generation leaders.

These workshops would not have been possible without the support of the Anita Borg Institute, a a social enterprise founded on the belief that women are vital to building technology that the world needs.

“FWN GivesBack” is led by FWN Board Member, Elizabeth Bautista, Manager for the Operations Technology Group (OTG) at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s National Energy Research Scientific Computing (NERSC) Center.

There are two workshops we are convening pre-Summit on Wednesday, October 25, 2017:

  • Musical Coding: “Turn Up For STEAM” workshop presented by Musical Notes. This is for 9-12 year old Filipina Canadian girls who are interested in a one-of-a-kind STEAM Workshop called Turn Up for STEAM with culturally relevant examples where they can seamlessly integrate; for instance, Hip-Hop, music, science, and math. There will be a short graduation/presentation after the workshop. Each girl should be able to bring their own laptop and headphones to class.
  • Robotics “Wonder-Full Adventures with Robots: Dash and Dot” for high school Filipina Canadian girls. We are looking for 10 teams. Each team consists of 1 adult/teacher preferred and 4 team members. Each team will get to bring the robot they worked on back to their high school. See equipment requirements to bring to the workshop below.

Participation in both Pre-Summit workshops is COMPLIMENTARY.
