“I feel like I now have a responsibility,” Edith Winterhalter said. “It’s really big, and I’m still not internalizing [the award], to be honest. I’m now [under] a bigger microscope and have to be more socially responsible on a larger scale.”

Dina Dela Paz- Stalder has gone beyond lip service regarding healthy eating. She decided to create her own healthy dishes using ingredients that help local farmers. She went to Sagada and bought brown rice from local farmers. “I love the Philippines,” she said. “Let’s help our countrymen. We’ve forgotten them. Although I’m not rich, I never dreamed of getting rich in other countries. I know I’m sharing good things with our kabababayan.”

Justice Milagros Eustaquio-Syme’s contribution to the Filipino Canadian community started way back in the mid-1980s. In 1986, she was the founder and first president of the Network of Filipino Canadian Women, when she went to bat for women victims of domestic violence.
