The Board of Trustees of Insular Life approved several appointments to its top management post and in the membership of the Board of Trustees, effective January 1, 2018. Nina D. Aguas (Global FWN100™ '13) was appointed Executive Chairman of the Board of Trustees. She was Chief Executive Officer from January 2016 to December 2017. Succeeding Aguas as CEO is Mona Lisa B. de la Cruz (Global FWN100™ '16), formerly President and Chief Operating Officer.
Margaret Lapiz (Global FWN100™ 2013) is the recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus/a Award, which is given to an alumnus contributing significantly to their communities and most specifically to the university. Lapiz will be recognized by the Cal Aggie Alumni Association for her contributions in medicine to the Hispanic community. She founded Prep Medico, which focuses on supporting medical professionals who specialize in assisting Hispanic patients. Additionally, she created the Lapiz Family Scholarship Fund to support children of agricultural workers who are attending or will attend college.
The World Economic Forum projects it will take the world 217 years to reach gender parity at the rate it’s going now. Analisa Leonor Balares (US FWN100™ '09 and Global FWN100™ '14), recognized by the same organization as a “Young Global Leader,” knows this well. She's spent the last ten years trying to size down that statistic through a non-profit global community geared toward empowering and training women. She’s called the brainchild of her days at Harvard Business School, “Womensphere.” On its tenth year, it's heading back to its roots in the Philippines.
Gizelle Covarrubias Robinson from Technology Services in San Francisco has been named one of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World by the Filipina Women's Network. Gizelle was honored with the Innovator and Thought Leader award, which recognizes women who have delivered new and unique applications of emerging technology transforming the way people think.
