ASK A FILIPINA: #20 DISRUPT Leadership Tip from Amelia Duran-Stanton, Deputy Chief of Inspections/Ortho Physician Assistant, U.S. Army (Global FWN100™ '13)

ASK A FILIPINA: #20 DISRUPT Leadership Tip from Amelia Duran-Stanton, Deputy Chief of Inspections/Ortho Physician Assistant, U.S. Army (Global FWN100™ '13)

Persistence, resilence and passion are key for long term success. You may not be the smartest or most qualified for every job you want. However, by being persistent in identifying your shortcomings and being passionate in taking action to address them, you will succeed. Resilience is important in overcoming obstacles. There will always be someone who will make negative comments or will not be supportive of the goals that you have for yourself. Being resilient will enable you to ignore the negativity, enable you to pick yourself up quickly when you fall or get pushed down, and to brush yourself off and get back on track.

- MAJ Amelia Duran-Stanton Ph.D., DSc, Deputy Chief of Inspections/Ortho Physician Assistant, U.S. Army

Filipina Comfort Women Largely Ignored by Japanese Emperor's Philippine State Visit

The Filipina victims of sexual slavery were not acknowledged during Emperor Akihito's visit to the Philippines last week. Filipina comfort women have been demanding recognition and justice from the Japanese government for the sexual exploitation and violence they suffered at the hands of Japanese soliders during WWII. There are about 70 Filipina comfort women still living, many of whom are over 80 years old. Their resolve and fight for justice remains unwavering after 60 years of struggle.  News story from The New York Times.
