Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, N.J., has launched the first hospital-based Filipino Medical Program in the U.S. Under the umbrella of Holy Name’s Asian Health Services, the program is designed to meet the medical needs of this community in a culturally sensitive environment and provide healthcare amenities to make Filipino-American patients and their families feel welcome and comfortable, according to a news release. Berlin: WASAK! Filipino Art Today Showcases Contemporary Filipino Art in Europe
A group art exhibition in Berlin, Germany entitled "WASAK! Filipino Art Today" opened last Saturday, December 5th at the new Arndt Art Agency A3 premises. Curated by Norman Crisologo, The Berlin Group Exhibition “WASAK! Filipino Art Today" is a seminal exhibition exploring Filipino contemporary art in Europe. The exhibition will be accompanied by a hardcopy catalogue published by European publishing house DISTANZ Verlag. Department of Homeland Security Releases New U and T Visa Law Enforcement Resource Guide
The Department of Homeland Security published an updated resource guide to clarify and further explain the role of certifying agencies in the U and T visa application process. This guide addresses concerns, answers common questions, and provides accurate information on signing I-918B and I-914B forms for federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, and other government agencies qualified to sign U visa certifications such as the EEOC, federal and state labor departments, adult and child protective services, and any other eligible agencies that have criminal, civil, or administrative investigative or prosecutorial authority. FWN Board Member Thelma Boac (US FWN100™ '07, pictured second from right) was recently recognized by the Ivy Rose Community Foundation and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. ETA Rho Omega Chapter for her outstanding community involvement as Board Trustee of the Berryessa School District and her 37 years as an educator and school administrator in San Jose, California. Thelma was selected as one of the 2015 Distinguished Women awardees. A reception was held this past Saturday, November 29th at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel. Congratulations! Professor Glenda Bonifacio (Global FWN100™ '15) Recognized For FWN100™ Award by University of Lethbridge, Canada
Professor Glenda Bonifacio (Global FWN100™ '15) was recognized for her recent Global FWN100™ '15 Award in the Thought Leader & Visionary category by the University of Lethbridge. “I was both surprised and humbled when I learned the Filipina Women’s Network had selected me to receive this award,” says Bonifacio. “I am proud to be honoured by an organization that is dedicated to increasing awareness of the activities, careers and status of Filipina women around the world.” Bonifacio has been a professor in the U of L’s Department of Women and Gender Studies since 2005 and her research has focused on Filipino women’s migration in Canada and Australia, intersections of gender, development and globalization, and migration and citizenship. In addition to her teaching and research responsibilities, Bonifacio spearheaded a local book drive to help schools in Tacloban after Typhoon Yolanda struck in 2013 and she continues to work on this community project with ReadWorld Foundation. This past summer, she instructed the first ever U of L field course to Tacloban. Major Milestone: Ramar Foods Produces 1 Billionth Lumpia!
Ramar Foods is a third generation Filipino-American family business that has produced well-loved Filipino food staples for over thirty years. Ramar Foods was founded by Ramon and Maria Quesada (pictured) in 1969 after they immigrated to the U.S. with their 11 children.
